1. Menu

You will find the Multiplayer settings under the heading "Multiplayer".

1.1. "Player" Tab

Player Name: This name will appear in the points table in Multiplayer matches
and will also be displayed on another player's screen above your ship.

Team: For team matches, enter the name of the team you would like to join.

Ship Type: Choose your ship by clicking on one of the 6 types available. All
the ships have the same functional capabilities, but vary in style.

1.2. "Join Server" Tab

Current server matches are displayed in the table. For on-line matches, enter
the IP and server port in the entry field.
To take part in a match, select the relevant line in the table and click "Join".
If the maximum number of players allowed have already joined the match (e.g.
8 of 8), you cannot take part.

1.3. "Host Server" Tab

Choose one of the maps over the tab where you would like the match to take
place.

Server Name: Your server name. This appears on the screen of a player wanting
to join the game on the "Join Server" tab.

Server Port: Here you can name a free port over which the match will take place.
Pass this info on to other players wishing to join your Internet game.
The setting 0 initiates the search for a free port.

Game Type: Select from the available game modes:
Deathmatch: Single player "Head to head".
Team Deathmatch: Players belong to the red or blue team.

Max. Players: Here you can define the maximum number of players from 2 to 8.

Time Limit: Here you can define the maximum match duration from 1 to 30 minutes.
Points Limit: Here you can define the maximum number of points from 1 to 100.
Matches with a longer time limit but a lower points limit, end when a player
has reached the points limit. The first team/player to reach the points limit
wins.
Matches with a shorter time limit, but a higher points limit, end when the time
runs out. The player/team with the highest score at the end of the match wins.

Jet mode only: When you activate this mode all the ships will fly in Jet mode
throughout the match. When engaged in lengthy pursuit, the flying skills of
the players will be the critical factor. Colliding with objects can cause ships
to crash.
When this option is deactivated, players can also fly in Hover mode, which is
more of a hide-and-seek, FPS-type gameplay and the strategic use of cover plays
a greater role.

Auto balance: When you activate this option, the players in a team match are
automatically assigned to the red or blue team.
When this option is deactivated, the players can determine their preferred team
set-up and select the team they wish to join ("Player" tab).

Friendly Fire: When you activate this option, players in a team can kill their
own team members in the team match. In this case, the offending player, and
therefore his team, has points deducted from his score.
When this option is deactivated, the ships are immune to friendly fire.

1.4. "Messages" Tab

Here you can prepare up to 10 short text messages to send to other players
during the match.
Enter the text in the appropriate line. The maximum length per message is 32
characters.
To remove the messages in the match, use the designated keys in
Options/Controls/Other.

1.5. Other Changes

Options/Controls:

Using the "Other" tab you can define the keys for removing your pre-set
messages.
You can also define the key to display the scores.

The mouse control has been further optimised for the Multiplayer extension.

Should you wish to play with the mouse, you must re-configure your settings
("Settings" tab).

Options/Video:

Due to performance reasons it is now possible to disable YAGER's usage of pixel
shaders (used for water, shadows and details maps).

When using a firewall:
YAGER uses the following ports for multi player: UDP (34855) - To look for other
YAGER-hosts within the LAN
TCP (free to choose) -
Client-Host connection.

2. In-game

2.1. Limits & General Info

In Multiplayer matches you can compete via LAN or on-line with up to 8 other
players.
The first player starts the server and determines the map, game mode and any
other match settings ("Host Server" tab).
All subsequent players can join or leave the current match at any time ("Join
Server" tab).
The match ends when one of the pre-defined game parameters has been reached
(points or time limit) or if the Server leaves the match.

If a player is killed during a match, a screen flashes up indicating the current
scores. When he presses the Action key, his ship will be placed into a Respawn
point in the game world.

Certain locations provide a constant source of pick-ups. Once a player has
picked an item up, another will appear in exactly the same place shortly afterwards.
Players who have been killed leave pick-ups, which sink slowly to the ground.

The appearance and quality of these pick-ups depends on the ranking in the points
table of the deceased player. Good players drop better pick-ups and more frequently
than bad players.

Repairs are not carried out on the usual repair pads as in Single player mode;
but here, the player collects a Repair bot, which then carries out in-flight
repairs to his ship.

In Multiplayer matches the radar system differs slightly from Single player
games.
Only distant players are shown on the radar and, as they approach, their radar
signal vanishes. When another player is near you, the centre of your radar will
flash red. (To track a player in your vicinity with the radar more effectively,
activate the "Mark" function; when you do this, the crosshair on your
HUD immediately locks onto him.)
Directly following the Respawn of a player, he will see any other players in
the immediate vicinity for a limited time.

The chosen names of the other players appear over their respective ships as
soon as they are targeted by your HUD.

Text messages providing details of events in the game are posted to the left
of the screen (kills, etc.).
Messages from your team members appear in the upper left corner of the screen.

You can view the current points table at any time (generally using the "F10"
key).

2.2. Game Modes

Deathmatch
Each player tries to accumulate points by killing other players. At the end
of the game the player who reaches the points limit first, i.e. he has collected
the most points when the time limit is up, wins the game.
All team members appear as red dots on the radar.

Team Deathmatch
The players who belong to either the blue or red teams try to accumulate points
by killing the opposing players. At the end of the game the team which reaches
the Points limit first, i.e. they have collected the most points when the time
limit is up, wins the game.
All team members appear as blue or red dots on the radar, depending on the colour
of their team.
The ships themselves are also marked in the relevant team colour.

Along with these basic modes, there are extra parameters which determine the
nature of a match (see section 1.3. "Host server" tab).
For details on how points are awarded, please read section 2.4. "Summary".

2.3. New Pick-ups and Features

Bonus Ammo
This pick-up powers up all available weapons to an extra 50-75% of their maximum
capacity.

Scanner
This pick-up allows you to view on the radar, for a limited time, any players
in your immediate vicinity. Their names and locations will also be visible in
the 3D environment through buildings or through any landscape features.

Repair bots
These mobile repair robots are collected from special pads; the player simply
flies up alongside the raised mounting to pick them up. After a while the mounting
rises again and a new Repair bot becomes available.

Cockpit hit
A Rail gun hit on the cockpit of an opposing team member results in their sudden
death and an appropriate message is sent.

Breakaway
When a player is leading the other players by a clear 5 points, this prompts
the message: "Breakaway detected". A special effect indicates this
to the player concerned and any player who kills him is awarded 3 points.
If the lead margin falls below 5 points, this prompts the message: "Breakaway
neutralised" and the game returns to normal.

2.4. Summary

At the end of a match, the points awarded determine victory or defeat. Points
are awarded as follows:

Killing an (opposing) player: +1
Killing an (opposing) leading player with an Advantage: +3
Crash (Colliding with landscape/objects): -1
Self-destruct (player's own missile explodes): -1
Killing own team member (Team Deathmatch): -1
